What is a Chemical Reaction?
A chemical reaction is a process in which one or more substances change and form one or more new substances with different properties. The substances that take part in the reaction are called reactants, while the new substances formed are called products.
For example, when magnesium burns in oxygen, it forms magnesium oxide:
Magnesium + Oxygen → Magnesium Oxide
In this reaction, magnesium and oxygen are the reactants, and magnesium oxide is the product. Changes such as the formation of a new substance, release of gas, change in colour, or change in temperature can indicate that a chemical reaction has taken place.
